Sound Design for Relaxation, Meditation, and Sleep

013 – Rain, Binaural Beats, and Ambient Music

In this episode, we look at the techniques that were used in Sound Experiment 014 for Relaxation, Meditation, and Sleep. This sound experience used synthesized light rain, binaural beats tuned to A 432 Hz with a modulating filter on the harmonics of the tones, harmonic relationships between the binaural beats, a 786 Hz tone, and ambient music played on a sound that combines the elements of a didgeridoo with a Tibetan singing bowl. These elements will also be utilized in the next sound experiment, 015, for a 2 hour version. All of these techniques are performed in real time using VCV RAck.

MIDI Controller Mixing of Ocean Waves, Rain, Binaural Beats, & Synth ASMR

In this episode, we will be looking at techniques that will be used in the upcoming release of Sound Experiments for Relaxation, Meditation, and Sleep. We will look at how to control the mixing of the different elements, such as ocean waves, rain, binaural beats, and synth ASMR. These approaches will be used in the real time mixing of the next experiment using a MIDI controller. We also look at the new approaches to these elements that are being used. The binaural beats have been improved as well as the synth ASMR. The tactile mixing using a controller allows for smoother transitions and more feeling as one moments unfolds into another. For real time sound design, this is a plus.

015 – Making an Ethereal Ambient Pad in VCV Rack

This episode is about making an ethereal pad in VCV Rack that also has a didgeridoo-like drone element to it for ambient music. This pad sound will be utilized in the upcoming 17th release of Sound Experiments for Relaxation, Meditation, and Sleep. This sound is very dynamic, can can be magical and mysterious at the same time. The upper register is glassy and smooth, while the lower register is capable of holding the aforementioned didgeridoo drone with harmonics controlled by the modulation wheel. The pad utilizes reverb and delay. All of the modules used int his episode are free modules from the wider VCV Rack community library. In the upcoming release, this sound will be used alongside ocean waves, rain, binaural beats, and synth ASMR prickles.

016 – Making a Campfire & Cricket Sounds

Let’s design the sound of a nighttime scene that has crickets and a crackling campfire. The campfire is small and peaceful and the crickets are hypnotic, which is just how we want them for relaxation, meditation, or sleep. In this episode, we will see how to make the campfire sound step by step in VCV Rack, which includes the flames and the crackles. We then bring in the cricket sounds from episode 010 of this series and integrate the two together to make this pleasant sound experience. The crickets are good for brain hemisphere synchronization and the crackling of the fire makes for some good ASMR.
