
What is an Ear Worm?
We all know that book worms are people who enjoy reading books, so what do Ear Worms enjoy? simply put, Ear worms enjoy great sound experiences, especially those in the wider realm of electronic and electro-acoustic music. Ear Worms is a weekly live stream hosted by Dr. Lawrence W. Moore of The Wayfarer Project and co-hosted by Jay Goodwin, a maker and designer of electronic and electro-acoustic instruments among other creations. The show is streamed live every Sunday evening at 7:30 pm U.S. Eastern Time. One can listen to the show live by subscribing to The Wayfarer Project’s main YouTube channel and clicking the bell icon for notifications. New scheduled streams usually appear on the YouTube channel by Thursday of each week. One can also catch the stream afterword by listening to them from the YouTube playlist in which they are archived.

We are concluding our adventure through the 1997 Luc Besson film, The Fifth Element with score by Eric Serra. We will especially be looking at one of the musical highlights from the film, which is the performance of Diva Plavalaguna. This operatic performance by Albanian opera vocalist Inva Mula is truly stellar. The on screen choreography performed by aMaiven Le Besco is excellent in portraying the performance. Additionally, we will be enjoying the story and great acting performances by Burce Willis, Milla Jovavich, Gary Oldman, Ian Holm, Chris Tucker, and others.
042 – The Fifth Element & Score by Eric Serra Part 1 of 2
Few films epitomize the 90s quite like The Fifth Element. The combination of science fiction with eternal truths and spirituality make for a fascinating mix. The balance of action, drama, and comedy is also quite enjoyable. We will be looking at the story as well as musical moments from the score by Eric Serra. Serra composed a number of scores for filmmaker, Luc Bessen, and this film is a great example of the teamwork between Serr and Besson. Bruce Willis, as usual, delivers a stellar role with many memorable moments. Let us explore the meaning of life and enjoy some innovative film scoring from Eric Serra!
041 – The Outer Limits – Nightmare – The Onafets Synthesizer + Makeshift Theremin
This edition of Ear Worms is once again exploring The Outer Limits. This show’s focus is on the episode “Nightmare,” which made use of a makeshift synthesizer put together by John Elizalde for the for the show. The synthesizer was called the “ONAFETS,” which is “Stefano” backwards, paying homage to the show creator and producer, John Stefano. The instrument was incorporated into Dominic Frontiere’s classic score for the epeisode. We will be hearing excerpts from the score and looking at slides of the episode to outline the story. Larry Rapchak did research on this episode (link below) when he met up with Roger Farris in 1984. Roger Farris, assistant composer and copyist for the show. This is a great overview of the musical score for the episode and all the innovative techniques that Dominic Frontiere employed. The ONAFETS synthesizer, put together by John Elizalde, featured prominently in the score.
040 – Star Wars Retold – Paraxeum of the Pathfinders
Star Wars has a long and rich legacy that has inspired fans to get creative and add their own work to an expanded universe of stories. One such creation comes to us from a man who goes by “World of Swap Shop.” He is the author of the story known as Star Wars: The Paraxeum of the Pathfinders. This story is part of a trilogy of tales that take place after the film, The Force Awakens. It is currently being released on YouTube in the form of an audio drama. We will talk to the creator about the sound design and the story. It promises to be an intriguing story for Star Wars fans of any age.
