The Gateway Experience – Working on Focus 10

by thewayfarerproject on Mar.17, 2010, under Meditation Techniques

I just wanted to briefly check back in on my efforts using The Gateway Experience meditations from the Monroe Institute. I have been working with the first CD from the series, and have been focusing on the 2nd and 3rd meditations on the CD, Focus 10 and Advanced Focus 10. I have been using them about 3 times a week for the last month.

The relaxation of the physical body portion of Focus 10 has been very useful for me. The narrated steps to relaxing the body have been the most useful steps to relaxation that I have tried thus far. This meditation has helped me to explore the hypnagogic state of sleep/waking reality more thoroughly. I have also been able to slow down the thoughts in mind to a more quiet state. I have always had great difficulty with this last part. I have not yet achieved an induced out of body experience just yet, but I have had moments where I felt the buzzing sensation that most people report having before leaving the body. Each time, however, I find myself shocking myself awake from this point. Prior to shocking myself awake, I was not in a sleeping state, but a hypnagogic state of peaceful relaxation. In this way, I believe that I am getting close to leaving the body.

I have also noticed some other unintended advantages to regular use of the meditations on the CD. I have lost some weight and I have achieved more energy throughout the day. I cannot say this is only due to the CD, but I have made no actual efforts toward losing weight, but it seems to be happening anyway. I will continue to post updates with my progress.
